Auditorium Conciliazione, Rome
A few hundred metres from St. Peter's Square, the Auditorium Conciliazione sits on Via della Conciliazione, the avenue that links the Tiber to the Vatican. Conceived in the 1930s as part of the redevelopment of the Borgo district and completed after the war by architects Marcello Piacentini and Giorgio Calza Bini, it opened in 1950 and was inaugurated as a pontifical audience hall by Pope Pius XII — a role it kept until the Paolo VI Hall replaced it in 1971.
From 1958 to 2000 the hall was the performing home of the Orchestra dell'Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia, Rome's main symphony orchestra. Today the main hall, with more than 1,700 seats, hosts symphonic and chamber concerts, pop and jazz tours, dance, film events and conferences year-round.
Getting there
The auditorium is at Via della Conciliazione 4. The nearest metro stop is Ottaviano on Line A, about a 14-minute walk via St. Peter's Square. Numerous buses serve the area: lines 40 and 64 stop near Piazza San Pietro, while the Traspontina/Conciliazione stop — served among others by lines 23, 62 and 982 — is roughly two minutes from the entrance on foot.
