Construction began in 1928 under architect Enrico Del Debbio and was completed by CONI after the Second World War, with the Stadio Olimpico inaugurated on 17 May 1953. The second-largest stadium in Italy after San Siro, it has hosted the 1960 Summer Olympics, the 1990 FIFA World Cup final, the 1980 and 2020 European Championship finals and four UEFA Champions League finals.
It is the shared home of AS Roma and SS Lazio, who contest the unmissable Derby della Capitale here, and the venue for Italy's Six Nations home rugby matches. Concerts by Madonna, Bruce Springsteen and the biggest Italian artists fill out a programme that spans the country's sporting and cultural calendar.
