Inaugurated on 19 September 1926 with a Milan–Inter derby, the stadium in the San Siro district — named Stadio Giuseppe Meazza in 1980 after the great forward who wore both clubs' shirts — is the largest in Italy, with 75,817 seats. A second tier was added in 1955, and the distinctive third ring, carried on cylindrical concrete towers beneath a girdered roof, arrived for the 1990 World Cup.

It is one of the very few major stadiums in the world shared by two top-flight clubs: AC Milan and Inter alternate home matches here throughout the season, and in summer the pitch hosts large-scale concerts.

Rings and sectors

Seating is arranged in three stacked rings (anelli), each divided into four colour-coded sectors: red and orange along the sides of the pitch, green and blue behind the goals. Inter's Curva Nord gathers in the second ring green, while Milan's Curva Sud occupies the second ring blue; the orange sector is the only one without a third ring.

Getting there

Metro line M5 (the lilac line) terminates at San Siro Stadio, directly beside the ground. Tram 16 from the city centre also ends at San Siro, and bus 49 serves the area. Services are reinforced on match and concert days, but expect crowds on the M5 after the final whistle.
