A New Shen Yun Production for 2027

Shen Yun develops a new production for each touring season, with a programme formed by a succession of shorter pieces rather than one continuous story. Classical Chinese dance is at the centre of the performance, with scenes drawing on historical periods, traditional legends and different regions of China.

A typical Shen Yun performance consists of around twenty individual pieces. The choreography ranges from large ensemble dances to narrative scenes, allowing costume, movement and stage design to change considerably during the performance.

Music is another central part of the production. A live orchestra combines Western orchestral instrumentation with traditional Chinese instruments, while animated digital backdrops extend the scenery behind the dancers and interact with the action on stage.

The result is a theatrical format in which dance, music, costume and projected scenery work together rather than functioning as separate elements.

Shen Yun at Rome's Teatro dell'Opera

The January performances take place at Teatro dell'Opera di Roma, also known as Teatro Costanzi, one of the Italian capital's principal opera and ballet venues. The theatre forms part of Rome's established performing-arts scene and hosts major opera and dance productions throughout its 2026/27 season.

Its traditional auditorium provides a particularly appropriate setting for Shen Yun's combination of large ensemble choreography and live orchestral accompaniment.
