Roma vs Real Madrid in the Champions League

The October meeting arrives during the early part of the 2026/27 Champions League league phase. Roma began their European campaign with a 1-1 draw away to Fenerbahçe, while Real Madrid opened with a 2-1 home victory against Inter. UEFA.com

Roma's European schedule makes the Real Madrid match the first Champions League fixture of the season at the Stadio Olimpico, followed just six days later by another home game against Slovan Bratislava. Later league-phase opponents include Manchester United, Paris Saint-Germain, Sporting CP, AEK Athens and Lille.

Real Madrid, meanwhile, arrive in Rome before further European fixtures against Leipzig, AEK Athens, PSV Eindhoven, Arsenal, LASK and Shakhtar Donetsk.

A Familiar European Rivalry

Roma and Real Madrid have met several times in the Champions League, giving this fixture considerably more history than a first-time European encounter.

One of Roma's most memorable results came in the 2007/08 round of 16, when the Italian club won both legs 2-1 to eliminate Madrid. More recent Champions League meetings have gone the other way. Real Madrid won both legs of their 2015/16 round-of-16 tie 2-0 and also defeated Roma during the 2018/19 group stage. UEFA.com

Their last competitive meeting at the Stadio Olimpico came in November 2018. Returning to Rome for another Champions League match gives supporters the chance to see this European rivalry renewed in the Italian capital.

Champions League Football at the Stadio Olimpico

The Stadio Olimpico provides the setting for Roma's biggest domestic and European home fixtures. Located in the Foro Italico area of Rome, it is a stadium closely associated with major nights in Italian football and offers a very different matchday experience from a regular league fixture when Champions League opponents visit.

Roma have also started the domestic season strongly at home, recording victories over Fiorentina and Atalanta before drawing 2-2 with Inter at the Olimpico in September.

With Real Madrid visiting for a 9:00 PM European fixture, supporters can expect one of the most prominent matches on Roma's home calendar.
