Rome and Naples have never agreed on much — coffee, pizza, or who really speaks for the Italian south. They meet at the Olimpico in May, with the season running down and the capital already deep into its warm months. Plan this one early and give yourself a few days either side.
The Stadio Olimpico is the largest stadium in Rome and one of the great arenas of European football. The Curva Sud is the heart of the Roma support: the singing starts long before kick-off, and on a full matchday the wall of red and yellow behind the goal is one of the most recognisable sights in Italian football.
Getting there is straightforward: tram 2 from Piazzale Flaminio to Piazza Mancini, or metro line A to Ottaviano and a walk across the Tiber. Matchday traffic around the Foro Italico is heavy, so allow extra time.
